Mihail Timofti was born the 19th of September, 1948, in Chisinau city. He studied in the E.Coca Musical School (at present the Ciprian Porumbescu Musical Lyceum), the clarinet class.

Being a pupil in the 7th form he sang in the Radio and Television chours (conducted by Mr E.Macalets).

| In 1965 he started his activity in the popular theatre "Contemporanul"(Art Director was the playwright Mr G.Timofte), where he appeared for the first time on the stage performing the leading part in the comedy of Mr G.Timofte "The Dreams and Troubles.". |

At the Moscow Festival of the Popular Theatres in 1967 Mihail Timofti was awarded two gold medals for the leading part in the comedy "The Drems and Troubles" and for the music written to this play.

Having left the school in 1967, he entered the G.Muzicescu State Conservatoire, the faculty of Drama Direction.

After graduating from the Conservatoire in 1971 he decided to indulge in cinematography and was taken on the film studio "Moldova- Film".

During 10 years of work at the film studio he passed all the stages from the assistant film director to the director of the documentary films. Up to 1981 he turned out about 40 documentary and short musical films.

The long cherished dream of the musical theatre led M.Timofti to the N.A.Rimsky-Korsakov State Conservatoire in Leningrad (St. Petersbourg) and he entered the faculty of Musical Theatre Direction in 1981.

| In autumn 1984 he went to do practical work in the Orenbourg Theatre of Musical Comedy. |

| In spring 1985 on the grounds of the governmental telegram from Moldova M.Timofti took an external degree of the Leningrad Conservatoire and came back to the Republic. |

In 1986 he was invited as a Head Director in the Saransk Theatre of Musical Comedy.

In the 1988 he staged the musical "Capitain Flint`s Treasures" by Saveliev.

But nostalgia made M.Timofti come back to Chisinau. The 18th of April, 1990, he joined the company of the State National Theatre of Opera and Ballet as a stage director.
